We will meet at the Brecon Beacons National Park Mountain Centre and if the weather is good for us we’ll witness a timeless event, sunrise as the ancients would have seen it on the shortest day of the year.
Starting at a lay-by on the A470 we’ll walk a route that will see us rather alone for a good deal of the day despite walking to the summit of the highest mountain in Southern Britain, Pen y Fan. This walk is 20km and has over 1000m of ascent so we regard this as a challenge event for seasoned walkers 🙂
This walk takes Andy back to when he lived at Forest Lodge and opened the first mountain bike hire centre in the Brecon Beacons. We’ll meet at Forest Lodge and then follow Sarn Helen, a Roman Road, to the Hanging Valley, perhaps the most beautiful spot in the National Park.
Starting in the west the walks will, bi-monthly, trend eastwards from Moel Gornach in the west to The Black Mountain (South Top) in the east. You can join one or a few or all of these fine mountain walks.
