A real gem in the slate capital of the world!

Starting in the historic town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, this route explores the quarries and mining areas of the ‘Town that roofed the world’. We meet in Antur Stiniog cafe to watch a 9 minute film showing a brief history of the area. Right outside is one of the actual steam engines and slate waggons used dating back to (TBC). We then take to the old inline where we start our accent, walking through the present mine workings to the old slate mills of Maen Offeren quarries. The route passes Lynn Newydd and Llyn Bowydd before climbing to the highest point-Manod Mawr (661m).

Returning via Llyn y Manod and Llyn Glas we either follow Afon Du-bach directly or if time allows we take in the peak of Manod Bach (511m) before decending alongside the Afon Du-bach waterfall, down the inclines into Bethania. Finishing back at Antur Stiniog for a well earned Panad!
