Druids And Romans
The Northern part of the Carneddau range is home to over a thousand ancient monuments, showing that at some point this was an area of extreme significance and importance.
The are is packed with standing stones, chambered tombs, hill forts, hut circles and lots more. Considered by some archaeologists to be one of the most important archaeological sites in Briton, certainly one of the most concentrated.
We will start off going down and across to Conwy Mountain, with views across to Anglesey and Llandudno, and visit some hut circles and hill fort. Next across to the Carneddau, and explore some of the features there, particularly the druids circle.
We will view what remains of Braich y Dinas, which was one of the largest hillforts in Europe, but which has unfortunately been destroyed by quarrying.
We will then return to the cars, passing a number of other features on the way. we can then either pop down to Penmaenmawr or Conwy for a hot drink and mince pie.
A walk of 10 miles, but we can adjust based on the weather, with around 700m ascent.
