Classic Pen y Fan Horseshoe And Spitfire Crash Site

Pen y Fan from the South. This 15k classic horseshoe walk crosses the valley below the now demolished lower Neuadd dam and climbs on to the Craig Fan Ddu ridge where we will aim to find the only Spitfire crash site in the Brecon Beacons National Park. We will then take in the 3 highest peaks in the Brecon Beacons – Corn Du, Pen y Fan and Crybin – before heading back to the cars down a good track.

There is the option to take in a 4th peak – Fan y Big – and the ‘diving board’ stone, weather, time and group fitness permitting. Good paths throughout apart from the short detour to the crash site and approximately 660m ascent.

Start/finish – car park at SO038169 towards the end of the lane up the Taf Fechan valley from the Pentwyn reservoir.

Have been out on a couple of guided walks and have booked as many more as I can fit into busy weekends. Thoroughly... enjoyed myself as someone new to walking in a group. My friends and family aren't that interested so it's great to join a friendly group with knowledgeable and experienced guides. For those who may worried about not being able to keep up, like I was, choose one of the events listed as 'doable by most' no need to be concerned. The Amazing 8 Waterfalls was spectacular after heavy rain.read more

I went on the amazing 8 waterfalls walk in June. Lovely group of people and Andy was friendly and knowledgeable.... Although I live fairly locally and had walked the first part a few times, it was really interesting to see places I hadn't been before. A few places were narrow and steep but everyone managed it, even if one or two of us went downhill on our bums (intentionally) in a couple of places. I would thoroughly recommend joining one of these walks if you want to walk with like-minded people. I hope to do one of the Pen y fan walks in the future.read more

I attended the waterfalls guided walk on a rainy day in October with my friends from my local running club. From the... minute we finished the briefing it was clear that Andy and his colleagues knew the area inside out and were enthusiastic about being out in the forests and Welsh country side. Andy was knowledgeable about the area but also about the environment in general and the importance of rewilding. The waterfalls were stunning and the route a manageable challenge. The day exceeded my expectations and will be returning with my daughters in the spring or summer.read more
