COASTEERING IN WALES
Our adventure coasteering session takes place near both Cardiff and Swansea on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
This well developed coasteering outdoor activity sees us in wetsuits traversing at sea level and making full use of the limestone sea cliffs.
COASTEERING ACTIVITY DAY DETAILS
COASTEERING ACTIVITY DAY DESCRIPTION
OGMORE BY SEA
This is our favourite activity. We meet at the car park at Ogmore and kit up - wetsuit, bouyancy, canoe helmet and walking boots (we really do not understand almost all other providers that allow clients to take part in this activity wearing old trainers) and then we're off. We start the session with a small jump - full immersion, then traverse the cliffs, swimming across small inlets, exploring these inlets and rising and falling with the swell. About halfway along the cliff we have some jumps, 10ft, 18ft and an Elvis (wobbly) leg maker of 25ft. On we go, more traversing until the end - a worrying move under a natural bridge with the added fear factor of rising with the swell to the ceiling. Our walk back takes us once again to the jumps for a final session and a chance to have a go at the big one again...
DEFINITIONS
The UK Mountain Training Board defines the activities in the following ways:
Sea Level Traversing- Primarily a dry Rock- Climbing activity.
Coasteering- Usually a wet activity involving swimming and jumping from height into water as an integral part.
Adventure Swimming- Another name for Coasteering or a non-technical variation of canyoning.
Ogmore
This is a great although exposed venue. We cannot guarantee that Coasteering will take place. In the event of poor sea conditions we will transfer the day to our Gorge Walk location, an extra 10 minute drive from both Swansea and Cardiff and another fine activity.
Situated on the Bristol channel, this area has the second highest tide range in the world (12 metres).
WHO CAN TAKE PART?
We can accommodate most levels of ability and have worked with all ages although any child under 11 years old should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
