About Us
ESTABLISHED in 1994 by Andrew Lamb, Wales Outdoors has grown from the FIRST Mountain Bike Hire business in the Brecon Beacons into a Wales Wide Multi Activity Provider. There is little in the outdoors that we are not able to offer either directly or through well chosen sub—contractors.
We carefully choose locations, staff, activities, accommodation and partners ensuring quality provision throughout. We may not have the most extensive list of activities but we can guarantee that all of the activities that we offer work well and offer value for money.
Andrew Lamb led the way in creating the only Outdoor Instructors Co-operative, was the key motivator in the creation of an environmental code for activity providers and has been Chairman of Brecon Beacons Tourism.
Environment
WE are committed to care for the outdoors and have developed ways of working that protect the environment from unreasonable and unnecessary damage. We choose sites to work in that can sustain the level of adventurous activity that is inherent in group work. As part of the induction and training programme all staff working for Wales Outdoors Ltd receive information and guidance with regards to careful use of the outdoors.
We have gained the Green Dragon Environmental Standard level 2. Not only do we have high standards with regards to our use of the natural environment but we have policies that restrict the use of paper, limit travelling times and encourage buying locally produced items.
License
We are inspected bi-annually by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority ensuring that all of our operational procedures, staffing levels, risk assessments and kit are at a minimum level. We go the extra mile though and encourage comparison between our policy and risk assessment documents with other centres. Check them out. You will find our documents on this site.
The Licensing Authority was the governments answer to the Lyme Bay tragedy when many young people died after being led out in unfavourable conditions, with an inexperienced member of staff, in kayaks, on a trip from estuary to open sea. The Authority advises on legislation, assists the HSE and inspects all providers that work with under 18's
